Landec-owned salad subsidiary Apio Inc. has introduced a new fresh-cut vegetable product to its salad line, the Chipotle Salad Kit, which it says will capitalise on a US restaurant-based trend towards using bolder pepper flavours.
'Vegetable salads offer novel alternatives to traditional leaf-based salads,' said Apio director of marketing Cali Tanguay. 'These salad kits offer quick, easy solutions for side dishes so they can easily have a protein added to create a nutritious main dish.'
The new product joins the Broccoli Salad Kit, first introduced in 2005, and the Asian Salad Kit, which was launched in 2006, with each of the three featuring shredded broccoli-based blends mixed with produce such as carrots and cabbage.
Apio is set to sample the new Chipotle salad range at the PMA Fresh Summit, which takes place in Atlanta on 15-16 October.
