The port of Antwerp in Belgium has reported a 16.1 per cent rise in the number of containers loaded and unloaded there.
The total number of Twenty-foot Equivalent Units it saw in 2010 was 8.48m.
The growth helped the Belgian port increase its share of the market in the Hamburg-Le Havre area from 22 per cent to 22.7 per cent.
Rotterdam was northern Europe's second fastest growing port, with volume increasing 14.5 per cent.
Le Havre experienced the slowest growth among the six ports, as its volume rose only 7.1 per cent.
