Spain’s leading fresh produce marketer Anecoop will today (16 February) unveil new varieties of citrus to its associated cooperatives, which it believes can help overcome some of the problems with profitability and excess volumes that have dogged the sector.
In conjunction with the Valencian Institute of Agricultural Investigation (IVIA), Anecoop will detail the work that it has carried out developing new varieties that it claims can allow the sector to cover gaps in the market.
The Institute will showcase two new late varieties of seedless mandarin oranges – Safor and Garbí – which are said to offer good sizes and can maintain their good conditions, after harvesting in February, for at least a month and a half.
According to Teleprensa, Anecoop will also be highlighting to an invited audience of 100 sector professionals the benefits of producing its recently-launched new variety of clementine, Clemensoon.
The variety, which is produced and marketed exclusively through Anecoop, is said by the company to provide an answer to the difficulties Valencia’s citrus sector has experienced with excess volumes and profitability.
