Kaki was a particularly strong performer in 2011/12, according to Anecoop

Spanish cooperative Anecoop, which represents some 76 fresh produce organisations in the country, has revealed an improved set of results for the 2011/12 marketing season.

Anecoop said that producers commercialised 675,771 tonnes of fruit and vegetables through the year, up 2.5 per cent on the previous campaign, registering a turnover of €508m in the process – a 5.4 per cent improvement on 2010/11.

Persimmons were one of the star performers in the fruit category, with growth of 37.5 per cent year-on-year, surpassing 40,000 tonnes.

Summer fruits grew 5.1 per cent in volume terms and 12 per cent in value, while tropical fruit grew 11 per cent in value terms, and citrus demonstrated more modest growth of 1.7 per cent in sales and 2.2 per cent in turnover.

Vegetable sales climbed 2.3 per cent for the year, Anecoop said, and increased in value by 3.1 per cent.
