There is still time to register for Fruitnet’s conference and networking event

FCC 2024 press release fruitnet Story OCT 1

With another successful edition of Fruit Attraction now concluded, all eyes are on Valencia as it gears up for next month’s Fruitnet Citrus Congress. Top retailers, marketers, growers, breeders, post-harvest, packaging and machinery companies will meet at the Museo de las Ciencias, part of the iconic City of Arts and Sciences designed by Santiago Calatrava to discuss ways of growing demand for fresh citrus in a lively one-day conference and networking event on 5 November.

This will be followed on the morning of 6 November by a series of study tours, where delegates will have the opportunity to visit state-of-the-art production and packing facilities, leading retailers and the Todolí Citrus Foundation, home to more than 500 citrus varieties from around the world.

Stephan Weist, senior buying director at Germany’s Rewe Group, said: “I’m looking forward to attending Fruitnet Citrus Congress to learn from specialists so that I can fine-tune my opinions based on the input I am hoping to get.

“If we look back over the last 5-10 years, the citrus category has been a mixed bag. Categories previously thought of as mature, such as lemons, have been surprisingly dynamic, while others, like oranges, have been relatively slow. What’s clear is that we need to better trigger consumption drivers, from varietal development to finding new consumption moments”.

David Alba of Genesis Fresh, commented: “At Genesis Fresh, we are driven by the conviction that innovation in citrus varietals is not just about adapting to current market demands but about shaping the future of fresh produce. With a strong pipeline of innovation ahead, it is essential that growers collaborate to bring these new varieties to life, and retailers elevate the shopper experience to showcase the true potential of these exciting developments.

“Attending Fruitnet’s Citrus Congress is a vital part of this journey, as we share insights, learn from industry leaders, and push the boundaries of what’s possible in varietal development.

“The health of the citrus category lies in this shared vision—driven by innovation, collaboration, and a commitment to delivering better, more inspiring choices to consumers.”

Full details of the conference programme and tours can be found here. Places on the tours are limited and will be allocated to delegates on a first come, first served basis so book early to avoid disappointment.
