German discounter Aldi has revealed plans to open its first store in New York City, in the US, in early 2011. The company plans to open the store in Queens.

Over the past two years, Aldi's presence in the US has grown rapidly, with openings increasing from 20-30 stores a year to around 80-100 from 2008.

The company now operates more than 1,000 stores in 31 states, and company spokeswoman Heather Tarzcan said that the company planned to open approximately 100 new stores this year.
