Following its decision to end its operations in Greece, Aldi Süd will close 25 of its 38 stores in the country by the end of 2010, the beginning of the end of its two-year presence in Greece.
According to a report by Imerisia, some 250 employees were dismissed last month, with more than 500 more set to leave Aldi Hellas by February 2011.
The publication revealed that a number of parties had expressed an interest in the German retailer's Greek store network, including Alfa-Beta, Lidl and Rewe Group.
Aldi has reportedly asked for substantial sums of €125m-€135m for its new distribution centre and headquarters in Sinden near Thessaloniki, as well as €9m-€12m for each owned store.
