Aldi sign

Leading discount grocer Aldi is set to build a new, 72,539m2, 34ha distribution centre in Georgia, as it continues its rapid expansion across the US.

Although still subject to planning approval, the retailer hopes to construct the new site in Jefferson, Georgia to supply the 20 stores that it currently operates in the metropolitan Atlanta area, according to Atlanta Business Chronicle.

The German retailer, which claims to serve more than 18m customers in 29 states every month, opened its 1,000th US store in West Haven, Conneticut on 23 March this year, following continued, steady growth across the country.

“As important as price is, there's only one way to attract and keep the diversity of shoppers we have – you have to have great products,” said Aldi US president Jason Hart at the time of the 1000th store opening.

“Our growth is a testament to our popularity with consumers and the loyalty we enjoy once people become our customers.”
