Aldi sign

Aldi is preparing for an assault on the Texan retail market with a multi-million dollar investment that will see the launch of new stores and the opening of a 46,451m2 distribution centre, the Progressive Grocer reported.

The discount retailer is set to launch 25 new stores in the Dallas/Fort Worth region that are expected to begin opening in March 2010, in addition to the US$50m distribution centre in Denton which will open in January 2010.

'We're looking forward to becoming a part of the North Texas community and bringing great food and good jobs to the area,' said Aldi's divisional vice-president Scott Huska.

The expansion, he said, will offer customers saving of up to 50 per cent compared with where they shop regularly.

The group plans to open over 75 stores across the US this year.
