Janus Fruit said the deal will secure its supply of raw material for its avocado-based spreads
Global avocado specialist Alcoaxarquía has acquired a stake in avocado-based vegetable spread company Janus Fruit.
Janus Fruit, which is owned by Anecoop and its cooperative partner Rural San Vicente Ferrer de Benaguasil, said the decision to join forces would “unite synergies and enable the partners to grow in competitiveness, consolidating Janus as the Valencian company of reference in the production of avocado-based vegetable spreads”.
Málaga-based Alcoaxarquía specialises in the production and export of agri-food products originating in both hemispheres. Its main product is avocado, which it supplies through 12 months of the year. In 2022, the group expanded its avocado production into Valencia through its subsidiary Alcoaxarquía Levante, located in the town of Sollana.
Janus Fruit CEO Juan Carlos Bolta, commented: “this is a strategic and fundamental step forward, in anticipation of the imbalances in the supply of avocado that derive from the action of climate change and the constant growth of the market”.
Janus Fruit will continue to use its Benaguasil facility to manufacture the spread, supplementing Alcoaxarquía’s avocado production with that of other Anecoop partners.
Anecoop’s president Alejandro Monzón said the move “represents a very important advance for our organisation and for Janus, which, due to its industrial activity over 12 months, needs the guarantee of avocado supply throughout the year. Likewise, it boosts our competitiveness and our ability to respond to the increasingly demanding demand of our clients”.
José Antonio Alconchel, president of Alcoaxarquia, said the union marks another step towards vertical integration. “Thanks to this agreement we gain commercial power and greater international presence at a key moment for our company, immersed in recent years in a process of expansion in foreign markets,” he noted.
