Air cargo traffic is forecast to almost triple by 2031 due to rising intercontinental demand for fresh produce, according to the latest Airbus 2010-2030 Cargo Global Market report.
The growth is being driven by the world's developing regions, where population migration and a burgeoning middle class is generating demand for food and other perishables,Airbus senior vice president Christopher Emerson told industry website Logisticsmanager.com.
Some 834 new aircraft with intercontinental range will be required to handle this rise in air cargo traffic, the report said.
