CEO Imanol Almudí named president of new initiative to boost role of commercial companies in the agri-food ecosystem
Spain’s Association of Fruit and Vegetable Producer Organisations of Almería (Coexphal) has approved the creation of a new business companies section, with the aim of strengthening the representation and strategic role of these entities within the agri-food model.
This new section will be chaired by Imanol Almudí, CEO of Agroponiente Group alongside Francisco Salinas, general manager of Zoi Agrícola, and Mabel Salinas, assistant director at Caparrós Nature, as vice presidents.
The initiative seeks to highlight the essential contribution of commercial companies to the value chain, positioning them as structuring, marketing and innovation-driving agents that are closely connected to primary production.
It recognises that these companies face specific challenges, such as limited access to certain public support mechanisms, despite having a major economic and social impact, generating stable employment, fostering territorial development and applying sustainability principles across all operations.
The new section will grant commercial companies their own voice within Coexphal, as well as in national and European entities such as Fepex, Eucofel and AREFLH, strengthening their capacity to influence and participate in strategic sector decisions.
Membership is open to all Coexphal -affiliated companies, not only those in the fruit and vegetable sector but also those in the ornamental segment.
“The creation of this Section addresses the need to properly represent the complexity and value that business companies contribute to Almería’s agricultural model. Our sector has evolved into an ecosystem where innovation, efficient management and social responsibility are as important as production,” Almudí said.
With this initiative, Coexphal said it reaffirms its commitment to supporting and professionalising all types of companies in the agri-food sector, consolidating a model that is more resilient, competitive and aligned with current social and environmental demands.
