Agrexco has reported an impressive 25 per cent increase in exports of its Carmel green grape variety Early Sweet, a popular variety in Europe and on the UK market in particular.
Agrexco states that both quality and quantity are good this season, and the company anticipates a yield of 2,500 tonnes, up from last year’s 2,000 tonnes.
Israel’s climate is conducive to a long grape season, since vines grown in different zones reach maturity at different times.
Eitan Zvi, Agrexco’s product manager for grapes, commented: “The first part of the season begins in May and continues till mid June. The Early Sweet grapes grown in the eastern part of Israel ripen first and reach the market early.”
The second part of the season continues until September, with the arrival of grapes from the central part of Israel.
