Francis Lucas, president of the Rural Coordination (CR) in France, has sent an open letter to the chairman of the Central Fund for Social and Agricultural Mutual Insurance (MSA) to try to break the silence surrounding the issue of suicide in agriculture, Végétable has reported.
The current crisis engulfing the farming sector in France, with many farmers growing at a considerable loss, has driven a large number to suicide.
The CR feels that it is the duty of the MSA to collate and disseminate the exact numbers in order to raise the state's awareness, and also the public's, concerning this issue so that action can be taken to reduce the pressure on farmers.
