One of Chile’s largest and oldest traditional fruit exporters has been formally declared bankrupt by a Chilean court with US$50m in debts, according to a report by La Segunda.
The court named Patricio Jamarne as the receiver in charge of proceedings and three principal creditors: Aconex partners Fernando and Alejandro Barros as well as the State Bank, the report said.
Aconex, which is owned by the Barros family, was founded in 1976.
The group has reportedly suffered “profound family and working differences” between the president and founder Fernando Barros and his son, general manager Alejandro.
Aconex is the fourth Chilean fresh fruit exporter to go out of business in the last 12 months together with Catania, Trinidad Exports and EcoAustral.
