A&P's plan to market and sell 25 Superfresh stores has been approved by a federal bankruptcy judge, according to Patch.com.
Twenty-two of the stores are in Maryland, two are in Delaware and there is one in the District of Columbia.
A&P filed a motion last month to offload the chain either as a whole or in smaller groups.
Sam Martin, A&P's president and CEO, said: 'While the decision to put these non-core stores up for sale will unfortunately impact some of our customers, partners, communities and associates, this is a necessary step in our efforts to restore the company to long-term financial health.'
A&P operates a total of 395 stores in eight states and the District of Columbia under a variety of different names.
