Walmart is investing in its Chinese fresh-food division, in a bid to increase food safety in the Asian country.
The US-based retail giant has launched a new testing programme in the city of Guangzhou, which includes mobile laboratories, equipped with professional facilities and four third-party technicians.
The programme will service more than 70 stores in the province of Guangdong.
Walmart also plans to open a new fresh-food distribution centre in Wuhan, which will also be used to administer testing services.
The new facility will bring the company’s number of testing centres in China to seven.
Walmart China CEO Greg Foran said the company hopes to invest Rnb100m (US$16.3m) in its Chinese food safety management over the next three years.
