Fresh fruit exports were a key point discussion during talks between Vietnamese minister of agriculture and rural development, Cao Đức Phát, and US secretary of agriculture, Thomas Vilsack, in Hà Nội on Monday (25 April), according to Viet Nam News.
The pair agreed to boost bilateral trade in agriculture, fishery and forestry, with the pledge welcomed by Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc during a reception on Monday evening.
During his address, Phúc asked the US to open up access for Vietnamese mangos and starfruits, while also reducing tariffs and pre-trade procedures on products currently approved for import, including dragon fruit, rambutan, longan and lychees.
Phúc expects the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement to deliver more co-operation between the two nations once it is ratified.
