The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) will purchase US$30m worth of US grown table grapes as part of its section 32 programme, which aims to help grower returns by diverting commodities from normal channels of trade and commerce.
The grapes will be sent to food banks, used in school meal programmes as well as various food nutrition assistance programmes.
The USDA has also allocated almost US$6m to the California Table Grape Commission to assist in the promotion of table grapes in global export markets.
Recent tariffs and ongoing trade barriers are causing uncertainty for the future of fresh produce exports from the US, highlighting the importance of effective promotional campaigns in international markets.
