Ports along the US south-east coast are preparing to shut down as Hurricane Irma heads their way, reports JOC.com.

Ports from Miami to Charleston lie in the Category 5 storm’s projected path and are closing their gates in anticipation of landfall this weekend, the website said.

Hurricane Irma is forecast to hit Florida early on Saturday, then projected to head north, slowly reducing in scale and size, before reaching Georgia by Monday, and South Carolina before Tuesday morning, JOC.com said.

Florida and Georgia governors have issued evacuation orders for areas where both states’ major ports sit. An evacuation order in South Carolina is expected on Saturday.

Every Florida port along the Atlantic coastline is scheduled to shut its gates by close of business today (Friday), the report said. Miami has already shuttered down.
