Representatives from some of the major retail chains in Thailand have been in northern Victoria to run their eyes over some of the region's fresh produce.
The officials looked at stonefruit, citrus and table grapes as part of the visit, according to ABC Rural.
However, Brian Balmer of the Department of Primary Industries said that getting produce recognised as Australian in Thailand could be a challenge if the opportunity to export arose.
'If they've got category in all year round, they may be sourcing from three or four different countries, and they may want to, `or` they may not want to, promote the country of origin,' he said. 'But in our case, we're really keen to do that because our product stands up very well, and what we want to do is have consumers coming in and saying 'I want to buy the Australian product'.'
