UK giant Tesco, the world's third-largest retailer, is planning to open its first wholesale cash and carry outlet in India this year.
'We see a huge opportunity for future growth in India,' Tesco international and internal communications director Greg Sage told the Press Trust of India.
'We will open our first wholesale cash & carry outlet in India this year,' he said.
Tesco already has a presence in the country through its joint venture with Tatas, which has outlets in Mumbai, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad and Chennai.
The company has 4,331 stores worldwide and employs 470,000 people in 14 countries.
Besides India, other countries were Tesco is established include Thailand, Poland, Hungary, South Korea, China, Ireland, Malaysia, Slovakia, Turkey, Japan and the US.
Mr Sage said the company was expanding its interests by 'investing in banking, mobile phones and other retail services', and added that the company's international businesses were focused on environmental sustainability.
