New Zealand exporter T&G Global says it has seen double-digit sales growth for apples and kiwifruit in Thailand over the past eight years.

James Gordon, the company’s general manager for Asia, told the country’s Farmers Weekly that demand for premium apple varieties Envy and Jazz – which it also supplies into the country from the US to maintain year-round supply – continues to rise.

He also revealed that T&G marketed 305,000 trays of Zespri SunGold kiwifruit and 111,000 trays of Zespri Green kiwifruit trays in the country in 2023/24, under a collaborative marketing agreement with the brand.

“We have a very discerning market here, with Thai consumers willing to pay for premium, high-quality fruit,” Gordon told the publication.

T&G has started to testing a new red apple called Joli, which it expects to launch commercially in 2028.
