Exports of mangoes from the Taiwanese county of Pingtung to Japan have risen again this year.
Irwin mango exports from Pingtung County to Japan hit 857 tonnes this year, reported CNA, up from 775 tonnes last year.
The fruit fetched around NT$80 (US$2.76) per kg in the Japanese market this year, the report said, compared to around NT$50-60 (US$1.70-2.04) per kg on the Taiwanese domestic market.
Pingtung County mangoes’ key advantage in Japan is their season, with a harvest in April-May when the market is largely free of competition.
