Taiwan will resume white-flesh dragon fruit imports from Vietnam from 1 June after a seven-year ban, reports the China Post.
The Vietnam Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development's Plant Protection Department told the publication the agreement was reached after long negotiations to remove technical barriers on plant quarantine between the Plant Protection Department and its Taiwanese counterpart, the Bureau of Animal and Plant Inspection and Quarantine (BAPHIQ).
In March 2009, Vietnam's dragon fruit exports to Taiwan were completely suspended after Vietnam was infected with melon fly disease, which could affect Taiwanese guava production, the report said.
Before then Vietnam exported around 10,000 tonnes of dragon fruits to Taiwan annually, the China Post said.
