Leading crop protection company Syngenta Bangladesh has announced plans to begin domestic production of vegetable seeds for export.
Sazzadul Hasan, the company’s managing director, has identified long bean, okra and tomato seeds as the products the company intends to produce to begin catering for international market demand.
India has been named as Syngenta’s first target overseas market, with export potential there beginning to be explored next year.
The company is presently working to introduce a range of crop protection tools, inputs and technologies in Bangladesh, as well as other Asian countries that also have economies based on agriculture.
Population increases are also fuelling the needs to increase crop production, according to the company, which believes a 2 per cent annual rise is necessary to meet population growth.
