A new processing facility looks set to open up doors internationally for leading Australian avocado co-operative Sunfresh Marketing.
Located on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, the processing plant has been fitted out with purpose built equipment developed by the Naturo Company. The technology is used to produce a range of long-life avocado pulp products, packed in vacuum-sealed bags.
Sunfresh claims the products are 100 per cent natural, with no chemicals or preservatives added.
While restrictions and protocols have previously prevented Australian avocados from being sold in a number of lucrative offshore markets, Sunfresh believes the processing technology will open up new export opportunities.
The new pulp products received favourable reviews at the recent Hotel and Food Exhibition (HOFEX) in Hong Kong, where they were they were showcased in front of members from the international hospitality industry.
“The product was very popular at HOFEX,” explained Sunfresh Marketing deputy manager, Evan Heidemann. “There was strong interest and overwhelming excitement for this product and its world first innovative technology. It was clear that there is strong demand for the product.”
Sunfresh currently represents over 170 growers throughout Queensland.
