Leading table grape breeder-marketer Sun World has granted Fresh Produce Group-Western Australia and South African exporter Freshworld marketing licenses.
Freshworld has been granted specific rights to supply Sun World grapes to pan-Asian retailer Dairy Farm Group, who operate a number of leading supermarket chains including Welcome and Giant. The Stellenbosch-based company was founded by Danie Kieviet in 2001 and has developed markets for its range South African grown produce in the UK, Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
Fresh Produce Group-WA has been given rights to source Sun World varieties grown in Western Australia and sell them to clients in both domestic and export markets. Sydney-based produce supplier Fresh Produce Group owns the venture, along with leading Western Australian grape agronomists Ben Tanner and Tim Hyde.
Sun World’s executive vice president David Marguleas said both companies would have access to Sun World’s range of new and existing varieties, including Midnight Beauty, Scarlotta Seedless and Sable Seedless.
Marguleas said Sun World’s licensing programme involves over 1000 growers and marketers across the world.
