Belgian importer Special Fruit has announced that it has started importing a new product from Australia, known variously as the Blood Lime, the Red Centre Lime and the Citron Rouge.
The fruit is related to the finger lime, according to the importer, which describes it as a cross between a finger lime and a mandarin.
'The fruit has dark red skin, and on further maturity also has pink/red flesh,' Special Fruit said in a press release. 'Size is smaller than the Tahitian lime and the flavour is intense/sour like a lemon or lime, although quite unique because it also has sweeter mandarin characteristics.'
The red limes are being sold in a 500g clamshell container.
