Major Chinese fruit and vegetable distributor Sino Green Land Corporation has announced it aims to increase its imports of agricultural products from the US.
The company has dabbled in US imports already, bringing in two containers of US packaged food in February, and earlier this month it imported a container of organic apple juice.
“These trial orders help test the market,” said Sino Green Land’s CEO and chairman Xiong Luo. “The domestic consumption trend for imported food products continues to grow and the demand for premium imported food is increasing at a double digit pace based on a report by the Statistics Bureau in China.
“We are excited about the expansion of our import operations and believe that there is a bright future and growth prospects in this new business venture.”
The company said in a statement it was keen to establish partnerships with US exporters. Sino Green Land’s management team is also due to visit the suppliers in the US later this year.
China is already a huge market for the US, in 2010 importing US$17.5bn worth of agricultural products from the US, a 15.1 per cent of the North American nation’s agricultural exports.
US interest in the market is clear, this week seeing a visit to Japan, China and South Korea by a high-level delegation from Michigan.
