Sinclair Systems International has been awarded the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers’ (ASABE) 2017 AE50 Outstanding Innovations Award.
The food-safe label and equipment manufacturer was recognised for its new Sinclair Print on Demand innovation.
According to Sinclair, Print on Demand combines several technologies to print various produce label attributes in real-time, such as PLUs (product look up code) and GS1 DataBar barcodes.
“Using a common label to print various label attributes enables packing operations to reduce and consolidate label inventory,” the company said in a release.
“Furthermore, the patented system adds flexibility to packing operations by providing quick transition when changing over from one variety to another. Sinclair Print on Demand also allows for adding more granular item level information to the fruit label by printing lot codes or dates, if desired.”
Sinclair’s director of R&D, Scott Howarth, was on hand to accept the ASABE award at the recent Agricultural Equipment Technology Conference event in Louisville, US.
“We are very pleased and humbled to be recognized by ASABE,” Howarth explained. “Sinclair prides itself on innovation and serving the needs of the fruit packing industry.”
