Walmart’s Japanese supermarket banner, Seiyu, has revealed it will significantly extend its online grocery service over the coming years.
According the Just-Food website, the company announced last week (25 January) it would provide online grocery services at 125 of its supermarkets by the end of this year, and extend that to 350 outlets by the end of 2013.
The intention is to grow the number of online customers by ten-fold, and the volume of sales by 20–fold, over the next five years.
Currently the retailer offers an online grocery service at 47 of its stores, based mainly in the Kanto region, the website reported.
The new stores will introduce the service to Hokkaido, Nagano, Tokai, Kansai and Kyushu.
