Chilean fruit specialist Rucaray is trialling three new kiwifruit varieties, two table grapes and at least three apples, all under a club model.
“Besides cherries, it seems club varieties have taken control of new investments in Chile,” Rucaray’s managing director Alberto Navajas told Trade Latin America.
As a shareholder of Consorcio de la Fruta, a group of Chilean suppliers, Rucaray also expects to launch other commercial varieties in four or five years’ time.
During the last decade Rucaray has placed a special emphasis on exploring new varieties.
Since 2007, the company has invested over US$100,000 in the research and development of new varieties.
