Leading Japanese retailers Aeon and Seven & I have reported strong revenue growth over the nine month period ending 30 November, 2014. However both companies have reported weak profit figures, according to a report by Kam City.
Aeon’s overall revenue grew 9.9 per cent to ¥5.08trn over the nine month period, although operating profit fell 47.9 per cent to ¥49.4bn. Net profit increased by 47.4 per cent to ¥29.4bn, however Kam City suggested this figure was inflated by one-off gains.
Seven & I’s revenue rose by 7.5 per cent to ¥4.5trn, thanks largely to gains in the company’s convenience store (up 8.6 per cent) and supermarket (0.2 per cent) sectors. Again, profit margins were underwhelming, with operating profits growing just 0.1 per cent, while net profits decreased 0.6 per cent.
