The effects of Friday’s devastating earthquake and subsequent tsunami in Japan have affected retail in the country

According to a report on website Just-Food.com, Costco has announced two people died when a parking ramp at its Tamasakai store collapsed. The outlet sustained significant damage and would be closed for several months pending further inspection and repairs, the company reported.

Meanwhile, Lawson has reported 139 of its 911 outlets are not in service and, of those that are, some are short on supplies.

Aeon did not disclose how many of its stores had ceased operating, but reported it would endeavour to keep stores open and continue the sale of food and other daily necessities.

The company added that it was devoting its energies to procuring goods and securing distribution routes in order to rebuild a system for supplying its customers.
