Container cargo volumes reached record heights at California's Port of Long Beach in June.
The port's terminals moved 752,188 TEUs for the month, 4.4 per cent higher than the previous 'best month' record set in July 2017.
Overall trade increased 14.2 per cent for the month compared with June 2017. Through June, the port has handled nearly 4m TEUs, 14.5 per cent above the pace set in 2017, the port's busiest year ever.
June also capped the port's best second quarter with almost 2.1m TEUs processed, 10 per cent more than the corresponding quarter a year ago.
'We are on track to beat our historic pace from 2017,' said Port of Long Beach executive director Mario Cordero. 'The domestic and global economies are good, which is why were seeing all of this activity. Certainly the escalating trade tensions have everyone in the industry concerned, but were going to continue to provide excellent customer service and fulfill our mission of facilitating commerce.'
