Pakistan’s President is pushing for “aggressive” fruit exports to Asia in a bid to boost his country’s economic growth, reports app.com.pk
President Asif Ali Zadari told his government on Tuesday to speed up exports of Pakistani mangoes and domestic fruits to Japan and other Asian countries by offering grower incentives and market training, the publication said.
His advice followed Japan’s announcement that it would open its doors to Pakistani Sindhri and Chaunsa mangoes.
The President said all Pakistani mango grower-shippers must be urgently informed of the Japanese government’s decision in order to take the necessary steps to market their product there.
Spokesman to the President, Farhatullah Babar, said President Zadari advised the government to plan an incentives-based policy so farmers and exporters could make the most of exporting mangoes and other fruits to international markets.
The President said that incentives-based policies yielded very high dividends in economic growth.
He added that the Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with other stakeholders may hold seminars for grower-shippers to help them seize this opportunity for “aggressive” exports to Japan.
“We have great export potential which needs to be properly channelled,” the President said.
