The Philippines is looking into increasing its imports of US vegetables, reports gmanetwork.com.

The country's Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) is understood to be working on an agreement to boost US vegetable volumes, and a final draft will be released once pest risk analyses have been completed on the produce included in the deal, the article said.

Currently 250kg of US vegetables are permitted per import permit.

Commenting on the development, BPI director Clarita Barron said: "We still have to finalise the exact volume the Philippine market can tolerate so far as the increase in volume of US vegetables is concerned."

Barron said the planned agreement to boost US vegetable imports was in no way linked to the Philippines' attempts to increase its banana exports to the US.
