Filipino exports of bananas and okra to Japan have increased in the wake of the devastating earthquake and tsunami that hit the country last month.
Philippine Food Processors and Exporters Organisation president Roberto Amores told website the Inquirer demand for Philippine-grown bananas and vegetables in Japan was high.
Shipments of both class A and B bananas to Japan have surged since the 11 March earthquake and tsunami hit the archipelago.
The class B bananas were being donated to those affected by the disasters, reported the Inquirer.
Exports of Okra to Japan have also increased this year, said Mr Amores.
He points out that shipments of the fruit usually cease in the first weeks of May, however this year importers are continuing to place orders.
