The Peruvian Hass Avocado Growers Association (ProHass) has announced that the first 21 tonnes of Hass avocados left Peru for Japan on 19 August.
ProHass general manager Arturo Medina Castro told Agraria that inspectors from Japan’s National Organisation of Phystosanitary Protection approved the first container of Peruvian Hass avocados for export to the Asian nation on 18 August, with the second shipment scheduled for this Friday.
The first container was shpped byConsorcio de Productores de Frutas (CPF), with the second shipment belonging to Avocado Packing Company, which was the first to ship Hass avocados to China earlier this year, according to Agraria.
Castro added that at this stage in the Peruvian Hass avocado season, no more companies had announced plans to ship avocados to China, but that come the 2016 season, which kicks off in April, there would be plenty of potential to grow exports to both China and Japan.
