Pomegranates, pecans and frozen fruit could soon become the latest Peruvian products to be greenlighted for export to China.

Peru’s agriculture minister, Angel Manero, said negotiations with China were advancing and the agreement is expected to be signed at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC) Leaders’ Summit, which will be held in Peru on 10-16 November.

Peruvian exporters are increasingly targeting the Chinese market, where the right quality produce can fetch higher prices than in other markets like Europe.

Earlier this year, China and Peru concluded negotiations on the upgrading of a free trade agreement between both countries.

China was Peru’s largest trading partner in 2023, accounting for exports worth over US$23bn.
