Pakistani mango exports have kicked off shipments for this season, with the All Pakistan Fruit & Vegetable Exporters, Importers & Merchants Association (PFVA) forecasting 100,000 tonnes of mango exports this year.
The volume will fall short of last years 128,000 tonnes, valued at US$68m, due to a prolonged winter and strong winds in Punjab that saw mango production decline, reports Pakistan Today.
Pakistani export swill ship mangoes to 50 countries, with China, the US and South Korea key export markets.
PFVA chairman Waheed Ahmed, told the local news site that promotions events would take place in China, one of Pakistan’s growing markets for mangoes.
This year’s season coincides with the month of Ramadan, which Waheed said would see growth in exports volumes.
