Pakistan's fresh produce exports increased in value through the July-October period, which is recognised as the opening quarter of the fiscal year, although volumes actually fell.
According to figures released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) and published by The News, fruit exports jumped 4.21 per cent in value from US$78.2m (€60.5m) last year to US$81.5m (€63m), on volumes that were lower at 120,794 tonnes from 135,323 tonnes.
This was a trend matched in vegetable exports, PBS said, with export value coming in at US$31.75m (€24.6m), some 10.97 per cent higher than US$28.6m (€22m) in the same period of 2011.
However, as with fruit, volumes fell back, down from 106,752 tonnes to 65,113 tonnes this year.
