This season’s first consignment of Pakistani-grown Sindsri mangoes arrived in the US this week, with retailers fetching as much as US$25 for a 2.5kg pack, according to Pakistan Today.
The 3.5 tonne consignment was delivered to the state of Texas, with the fruit currently being sold across stores in Austin, Huston and Dallas.
Pakistan’s US Ambassador, Jalil Abbas Jilani, said more consignments of mangoes were due to arrive in Huston over the next two weeks, as the Central Asian nation looks to bolster exports to the US under a new initiative announced by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
Karachi-based Farm House Exports and Houston firm Famous Foods Products handled the initial shipment.
