Pakistan's mango industry has enjoyed a positive 2011, with the news that it hit the 150,000-tonne export target set by the government at the beginning of the campaign.
The country's final yield is set to fall between 1.6m-1.8m tonnes of fruit, with exporters actually noting that the 150,000 tonnes target was inadequate, the Daily Times reported.
According to the publication, exporters had voiced concerns that a lack of overseas marketing and a lack of support from the government had held the industry back from setting even higher targets,
Leading export markets for Pakistan's mangoes include Afghanistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Oman Kuwait and the UAE in the Middle East, Sweden, Denmark, the UK and France in Europe, and Singapore and Malaysia in Far-East Asia.
