Fresh fruit retailer Pagoda has celebrated the opening of 1,000 stores in China with a ceremony in Shanghai on 30 May.
The speciality retailer used the occasion to put in a bid for the world’s largest fruit bowl, displaying a three-metre wide 3D-printed bowl filled with 1,288kg of 87 different types of fruit.
Pagoda president Huiyong Yu told the audience that 1,000 stores was just the beginning, with 10,000 stores on the cards for 2025.
Since opening its first store in 2001, Pagoda has expanded its presence rapidly, offering premium local and imported fruit and its stores across the country.
Pagoda is now waiting on confirmation from Guinness World Records that its fruit bowl was indeed the largest the world has ever seen – before it was devoured by the audience.
