Australian apple and pear growers will soon have access to an online registration system to streamline the export registration process and collate data more efficienctly and accurately.
Industry body Apple & Pear Australia (Apal) is developing the online registration system, with the Australian government granting A$117,810 towards the project as part of its Package Associating Smaller Exporters.
Apal said the current manual system for registration is time consuming and subject to human error.
The online system will be based on either Citrus Australia's or the Australian Table Grapes Association’s online registration programmes, with Apal to adapt the system to suit apple and pear growers and provide training to current and potential exporters.
The system is expected to be up and running for the 2017 export season.
