In the US, Northwest Cherry Growers has released its fourth crop update for the season, revealing that volumes have taken a hit as a result of unfavourable weather.
The Estimation Team findings showed that, up to 6 July, the industry had shipped just over 5.8m 20lb-equivalent boxes of cherries.
These numbers had been hit by 'less than optimal' weather in June, the group noted, resulting in a crop decrease of 22 per cent, from the original estimate of 18.3m boxes to 14.2m boxes.
Despite this, the group sees as positive few months ahead, with 'a very nice crop of late variety cherries on the trees'.
'The bottom line is that over the next month and a half the best cherries of the year are on the way,' the Northwest Cherry Growers team revealed.
