The trade of fresh produce into and out of New Zealand’s Northland region will be boosted by a new year-round service operated by MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company.

MSC decided to make the call at Northport in Marsden Point a fixed part of its Kiwi Express schedule following a highly successful seasonal port call earlier this year.

Kiwifruit marketer Zespri was among the companies to trial the seasonal service earlier this year, making several direct shipmentsfrom Northport.

The Kiwi Express service is set to call at Northport on a fortnightly basis.

“It is a noticeable and important inclusion for all exporters and importers in the Northland region, as they now have direct access to all international markets for their cargo,” said Steve Wright, general manager of MSC New Zealand.

“MSC has always been a strong supporter of regional New Zealand and this year-round call further enhances this reputation.”

The move will make MSC the only shipping line to offer a dedicated liner service from Northport.
