Kim Choon-jin has been appointed as the new president of the Korea Agro-Fisheries and Food Trade Corporation (aT).
Kim, a former member of Korea’s National Assembly from 2004 to 2016, will serve in the position for three years.
The new president was inaugurated in an online ceremony on 15 March and in a subsequent inauguration address Kim said he would work with the members of to help guarantee a stable supply of healthy food, a cause that had been highlighted by Covid-19 and climate change.
Kim addressed the deterioration of farming villages due to reckless development and environmental destruction, a trend he said threatened domestic agricultural production.
Additionally, he said aT would work towards developing a legislative proposal to ensure farmers both young and old could continue to earn stable and sustained profits.
